A truly world-famous Baltimore Institution, the Faidley’s name rings out as far as that of Lexington Market itself. A truly unique culinary experience, and one that is essential to the taste and character of Baltimore, Faidley’s has a history stretching back to 1886. Now operated by the tireless Nancy Faidley Devine and husband Bill Devine, Faidley’s is as good today as it was fifty years ago. The restaurant has three unique features: the fresh fish side, the raw bar, and the fried side.

The fresh side has a wide selection of fresh local catches, and some eccentric fare, including frog legs, raccoon, and muskrat (when in season). The raw bar sells beer, oysters, and clams, and has shucked literally millions since the little shuck shack at the restaurant’s center was built. Finally, the fried fish side is what draws the crowds. It’s where eager foodies and locals wait for a freshly fried Faidley’s crab cake. About the size of a softball, the golden brown crab cake is the stuff of legend, having earned Nancy a place serving kings and dignitaries around the world. You simply have to taste one.

The decor is eccentric and charming, featuring a sense of taste and humor that is characteristically Faidley. The seating is standing room only, with tall communal tables to help happy diners maneuver their big portions. It all coalesces into THE quintessential Lexington Market experience, and it’s something that everyone should try.
