The Transform Lexington Market Initiative announces a revised timeline for the Request for Proposals process for its East Market redevelopment

BALTIMORE, MD (April 22, 2020) — The Board of Directors of Lexington Market Inc, has issued a revised schedule for its competitive Request for Proposals (RFP) process for the repurposing of Lexington Market’s East Building and site. The RFP will seek a long-term tenant for the property which will be vacated as a new Market structure is completed on an adjacent parcel in late 2021.

The revised schedule, made necessary by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, is as follows:

·       The Pre-Proposal Conference will now take place at 11 a.m. EST, May 29, 2020 via teleconference. Those wishing to participate can RSVP to Dave O’Donnell at dodonnell@lexingtonmarket.com

·       The Request for Information (RFI) Deadline is now June 29, 2020.

·       The Closing Date for Proposals is now August 3, 2020, at 5 pm EST.

The RFP was issued on March 3, 2020. Other events in the timeline, including Community Presentations, Oral Presentations, and the Review Panel, will be rescheduled as necessary.

Announced at the groundbreaking for Lexington Market on February 18, 2020, the East Market RFP aims to promote the development of the property in a fashion that will achieve the objectives of growing the local economy, supporting the adjacent new Lexington Market, strengthening Downtown’s Westside neighborhood, and making a significant capital investment in Downtown.  Additionally, the RFP seeks to foster redevelopment that fits within the context of the Bromo Tower Arts and Entertainment District, Market Center National Historic District, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore campus.

The awarded developer will be required to comply with the Employ Baltimore Executive Order and the City of Baltimore’s Minority and Women’s Business Enterprise Program Ordinance. The RFP and details can be downloaded from Lexington Market’s website here.

Originally built in 1952, the East Market was home to generations of vendors who provided the citizens of Baltimore fresh, affordable foods.
